On February 28th, the commemorative event for the 20th anniversary of the promulgation of the Renewable Energy Law of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the Renewable Energy Law), which was sponsored by the China Energy Research Society, grandly took place in Beijing. This event brought together numerous representatives from government departments, industry associations, scientific research institutions and relevant enterprises, reviewed the remarkable achievements made by China in the field of renewable energy over the past two decades, and deeply discussed the feasible paths for future development. The "Renewable Energy Law" came into effect on January 1, 2006, aiming to promote the exploitation and utilization of renewable energy, increase energy supply, improve the energy structure, ensure energy security, protect the environment, and achieve the sustainable development of the economy and society. This law has clarified principles such as priority of the grid connection of renewable energy power, full acquisition, cost sharing, and fiscal and tax incentives, laying a legal foundation for the development of China's renewable energy.
Chen Qi pointed out that the Renewable Energy Law has witnessed and led China’s great transformation from a pattern dominated by traditional fossil energy to a diversified clean energy model, and it has achieved a series of remarkable results in strengthening policy support, promoting technological innovation, expanding the market scale, and improving the industrial chain layout. The newly-issued Energy Law of the People's Republic of China has put forward higher requirements for “How to further implement the tasks of energy conservation and emission reduction during the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan period”.
